Το να ψωνίζεις καλλυντικά online είναι ένα από τα πιο δύσκολα πράγματα. Ειδικά όταν πρόκειται για foundation, πούδρες και concealer, μπορεί να αποδειχθεί αληθινός εφιάλτης! Όλοι έχουμε στο δέρμα μας διαφορετικές αποχρώσεις, υποτόνους και οι ανάγκες μας είναι διαφορετικές και όλα αυτά χωρίς να υπολογίζουμε τον βαθμό κάλυψης που η καθεμιά μας επιθυμεί. Ευτυχώς όμως το να επιτύχεις την σωστή απόχρωση δεν είναι τόσο δύσκολο όσο νομίζουμε. Παρακάτω θα βρεις μερικές χρήσιμες συμβουλές που έχω πάντα στο μυαλό μου όταν ψωνίζω online καλλυντικά (αλλά και στα καταστήματα) που πιστεύω ότι θα σε βοηθήσουν και εσένα.

1. Γνωρίστε τους υποτόνους σας

Για αρχή καλό είναι να ξέρετε τους υποτόνους σας. Εάν ο υποτόνος δεν είναι ο σωστός, τότε το foundation θα είναι απλά γελοίο. Υπάρχουν 3 βασικές κατηγορίες υποτόνων: Ζεστοί, ψυχροί και φυσικοί. Οι ζεστοί υποτόνοι έχουν κίτρινες, ροδακινί ή χρυσές αποχρώσεις. Οι ψυχροί έχουν κόκκινες και ροζ αποχρώσεις ενώ οι φυσικοί έχουν … φυσικές. Ένα απλό τρικ για να βρείτε τους υποτόνους σας είναι να ρίξετε μια ματιά στις φλέβες του καρπού σας. Εάν έχετε μωβ ή μπλε φλέβες τότε έχετε ψυχρούς υποτόνους. Εάν οι φλέβες σας είναι πράσινες τότε αυτό είναι δείγμα ζεστών υποτόνων. Εάν έχετε και τα δύο, τότε έχετε φυσικούς υποτόνους. Μόλις το ξεκαθαρίσετε αυτό, η επιλογή της σωστής απόχρωσης θα είναι πολύ πιο εύκολη. Μπερδευτήκατε; Ρωτήστε απλά την αισθητικό σας.

2. Αποφασίστε τον σκοπό του foundation

Είναι εξαιρετικά σημαντικό να ξέρετε τι θέλετε από το foundation σας. Μερικά παρέχουν πλήρη κάλυψη ενώ άλλα απλά μια ομοιομορφία στο χρώμα. Εδώ είναι που μπαίνει στο παιχνίδι το internet. Βρείτε ένα καλό YouTube tutorial και δείτε προσεκτικά τόσο το look όσο και την καλυπτικότητα που αυτό χαρίζει πριν ξεκινήσετε να ψάχνετε για την σωστή απόχρωση.

3. Το Internet είναι ο καλύτερος φίλος σας

Συνεχίζοντας αυτά που είπαμε παραπάνω, το internet είναι η #1 πηγή πληροφοριών σας. Εκτός και αν μιλάμε για πολύ καινούργιο προϊόν, υπάρχει μεγάλη πιθανότητα να βρείτε swatches στο internet. Βέβαια, καλό είναι να χρησιμοποιείτε αυτά τα swatches προσεκτικά γιατί μερικές φορές το χρώμα δεν αποδίδεται σωστά. Επίσης ρίξτε μια ματιά σε blog reviews ανθρώπων με παρόμοια επιδερμίδα με την δική σας. Γενικά τα reviews και τα swatches είναι εξαιρετικά χρήσιμα. Βέβαια δεν θα σας βοηθήσουν ιδιαίτερα για να βρείτε την σωστή απόχρωση αλλά θα σας δώσουν μια γενική εικόνα για το προϊόν. Μια άλλη πολύ καλή λύση, που προσωπικά με έχει βοηθήσει αρκετά και πάντα χρησιμοποιώ, είναι online εργαλεία όπως το “Findation” και το “Temptalia” τα οποία έχουν foundation matrixes τα οποία σου βρίσκουν την ιδανική απόχρωση με βάση προϊόντα που ήδη χρησιμοποιείς.

4. Προτιμήστε ανοιχτόχρωμες αποχρώσεις

Όταν δεν είστε σίγουρες, επιλέξτε πάντα την πιο ανοιχτή απόχρωση. Είναι πολύ πιο εύκολο να κάνετε ένα foundation (ή και πούδρα) πιο σκούρο παρά πιο ανοιχτό, απλά περάστε από πάνω λιγάκι bronzer ή μια πούδρα σε πιο σκούρα απόχρωση.

5. Μια δοκιμή θα σας πείσει

Τα περισσότερα foundations – ειδικά τα πιο ακριβά – έχουν testers. Κάντε λοιπόν μια βόλτα από τον πάγκο και δοκιμάστε τα. Προτιμότερο είναι να το εφαρμόσετε στην περιοχή δίπλα από το λαιμό σας (και όχι στο χέρι σας) και να περιμένετε λιγάκι να απορροφηθεί.

6. Ρωτήστε, δεν είναι κακό

Τέλος, όσο δοκιμάζετε αποχρώσεις, ρωτήστε την αισθητικό. Έχουν τις γνώσεις αλλά και την πείρα να σας προτείνουν την πιο ταιριαστή απόχρωση.

First things first, learn your undertones! If the undertone isn't right the foundation is just ridiculous. There are 3 main undertones; Warm, Cool and Neutral. Warm undertones tend to have Yellow, Peachy or Golden undertones. Cool, tends to have Red, Pink or Rosey tint. And neutral is just neutral. Looking at your veins in your arm can help you determine your undertone. If you have Blueish, Purple veins, you are bound to have a cool undertone. Green veins are a sign of a warm undertone. It’s important to figure out exactly what you want your foundation to do before you start a deep dive into the wonderful world of face makeup. Some formulas deliver high-performance full coverage while others are designed to give skin a slight wash of color. It comes down to preference and need — something that’s often completely unique to you. This is where the internet comes in handy. Finding a favorite YouTube tutorial can help you figure out the look and coverage you’re going for before you start looking for your perfect match.

Unless a foundation is very new chances are there will be some swatches on the internet. Although, use these swatches with caution, because they are not always true to color. Also, check out some blog reviews of people you have a similar skin tone too. Bear in mind that cross-referencing reviews and swatches are always helpful. While reviews alone won’t necessarily help you find your perfect shade, they provide insight into the way a product wears throughout the day. Another great idea is to use online tools like “Findation” and “Temptalia” which have foundation matrixes that virtually match you based on formulas you already know and love. These resources are my go-to tools when shopping online for makeup products.

If in doubt go lighter. It's far easier to make a foundation darker than it is to go lighter. You make it darker with a light dusting of bronzer or with foundations drops.

Most foundations – including higher end - are on display for you to play with. Beauty stores have drugstore testers for you to try it out. When testing a foundation, it’s better to swatch it on your face (preferably next to your neck) rather than a wrist or hand and waiting a few minutes for it to settle.

While you are at the beauty store swatching shades, ask the makeup artist to shade match you. They will be able to walk you through your undertones, skin concerns and needs so you find a formula you’ll love.
